A Triumphant Return & Quick Update!

Cyser has made its official return!! Matt heard your requests, and mine, so we have it back on tap just in time for Strawberry Jamboree!!

So what is cyser, you may find yourself asking. Well, we are happy you asked. Cyser is a very old form of mead made with apple cider instead of water. Mead itself is an ancient beverage dating even into Norse mythology. It was made simply using honey and water that was left to ferment on its own. Forms of mead can be found throughout the world, ranging from Ethiopia to Poland and the British Isles. Cyser came along a little later, once apples were domesticated and people figured out how delicious apples and honey were together! It was extremely popular in Shakespearean and Victorian England and continues to be to this day.

Unfortunately, cyser has been all but forgotten in the United States. Bent Ladder likes to remember forgotten things. So here we are, making traditional cyser! We press our apples and blend the juice with rich, fragrant goldenrod honey from Ashland County. We allow a long, cool fermentation through the winter to capture the exceptional complexity of the local honey and apple blend, then we finished it off with light carbonation to allow the flavors to dance in you mouth.

Our cyser is a light straw color that pours with a thin head. It has aroma of apple, fall meadow, honey and a touch of wood smoke. It is full bodied and well balanced with flavors of pear, melon and honeycomb that ends in a long, smooth finish.

On another note, Strawberry U-pick has officially begun at Rittman Orchards, and there is nothing better than stopping in Bent Ladder afterwards for a rewarding chilled glass of cider or wine after filling your buckets with freshly picked strawberries! Bent Ladder is also now open Thursday: 12:00m-9:00pm, Friday and Saturday 12:00pm-10:00pm and Sundays 12:00pm-6:00pm! So there is more time to enjoy the view and come in for a Growler fill! Strawberry Jamboree is also this weekend so don’t miss out on all the activities and fun we have planned all day at both locations! (21 and over after 7:00pm).
