Bent Science: The Oaks vs. the Maples
Thursday, August 16th, 7pm

What are the key differences between the Red Oak Group and the White Oak Group? Hint: The main thing is not sharp lobes vs. round lobes). Is oak wilt disease serious in northeast Ohio? What are oak galls? Why do red maples sometimes displace sugar maples in forests? Do all maples have palm-like leaves? Is Verticillium wilt a threat to some maples and is tar spot a serous problem? What are those bladder-shaped and spindle-shaped projections on silver and red maple leaves? In what ways do we drink oaks and maples? Get your oak and maple Rush on at Bent Science!  Presented by Jim Chatfield and friends.

Singer/Songwriter Showcase with Jim Gill
Friday, August 17th, 6:30pm

Jim Gill with his guitar

It’s true that Jim Gill was a finalist in the new song competition at Kerrville’s Music Festival in Texas. It’s also true that he was the first runner-up in the 2006 Pittsburgh Singer/Songwriter competition and has toured throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and New England. It would not be a lie to state that he has shared stages with artists as renowned and varied as John Gorka, Michael Stanley and Tommy James and the Shondells. Nor is it a fallacy to divulge that he has seven sisters and no brothers. (I’ll let that sink in.) But perhaps most notably, Jim Gill may be most proud for winning a coloring contest in fourth grade. (It’s been discovered that the other kids in the class weren’t trying all that hard!)

Oh, and he sings and plays a guitar.

Plus, Korasada (previously known as Quite Frank), will be onsite from 5:30 until about 8:30 with their delicious tacos, burritos, burgers, truffle fries and more!
