Bent Science: Climate Change with Dan Herms
Thursday, October 19th, 7pm

Dr. Dan Herms

After slowly cooling throughout the past millennium, Earth has substantially warmed over the last 40 years. There is a strong scientific consensus that this warming is caused by human emission of greenhouse gases. There also is a substantial discrepancy between this scientific consensus and perceptions of the general public regarding climate change. This discussion will examine the evidence for anthropogenic climate change and roots of this discrepancy.

Until recently, Dan was a professor in the Department of Entomology at The Ohio State University, where he served on the faculty for 20 years. His research focused on effects of climate change on interactions between trees and insects, and he was a member of The Ohio State University Climate Change Outreach Team. In 2014, he was inducted as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Coming from the Midwest, Tom Evanchuck never strays too far from his roots. You hear it in the raw guitar, and Tom’s ability to both croon and crank out a harder song at a moment’s notice on stage to provide a true experience, and a chance to envision the early days of folk, blues, or rock ‘n’ roll.

You can find out more about Tom and listen to some of his music on his Bandcamp website.

Come sit and sip wine or cider while you share in your love of coloring, shading, blending and layering! Never colored before? Don’t have materials? Don’t worry! We will have some for you to try out. No need to sign up or register, just show up and ask about the coloring group! We can’t wait to get started!

Sip and Color will recur on the fourth Thursday of every month, starting at 6:30 pm.

Singer/Songwriter Showcase with Rebekah Jean
Friday, October 27th, 6:30pm

Rebekah Jean

Rebekah Jean is a smooth, powerful voice and honest, pointed lyrics. Raised within earshot of Cleveland, she cut her musical teeth on her father’s classic rock while singing “I’ll Fly Away” in her family’s southern Pentecostal church long before the soundtrack from O Brother, Where art Thou? swept listeners into an Americana obsession.

After nearly two years of touring as the tambourine-shaking, bass-climbing backup vocalist and manager for the David Mayfield Parade, Rebekah Jean stepped back from Mayfield’s project in 2013 to make a home in Ohio and forge a career out of her own compositions. She’s been winning hearts in Ohio and regionally ever since.

You can find out more about Rebekah on her website.

No cover charge. Some delicious Cajun and Creole food will be available from Zydeco Bistro from 5:30-8:30pm. Feel free to bring lawn chairs or blankets in case outdoor seating is full. Please note that after 6pm, Bent Ladder is 21+ only, please.

Saturday, October 28th, 6pm

We’re celebrating Halloween with Jamming and Jack-O-Lanterns at Bent Ladder! Gretchen Pleuss, Ray Flanagan and Tom Evanchuck will jam together (in costume?) for an extra-special evening of music.

Jack O’ Lantern carving contest! Beginning at 6pm, the first 30 customers through our doors will receive a free, ready-to-carve pumpkin for entry in the contest. Bring your carving tools and creativity for a chance to win. Oh yeah – come in costume for even more fun (just a suggestion).

Stone Pelican Rolling Cafe will be serving yummy eats 5:30-8:30pm.

Pumpkins will be available 6:00-8:00pm while supply lasts. All entries must be received no later than 8:30pm, and winners will be announced at 8:45pm. We encourage you to bring your own carving or decorating tools, but will have a limited supply on hand. Limit one pumpkin per customer, maxing out at 30 pumpkins.
