Singer/Songwriter Showcase with Gretchen Pleuss
Friday, June 2nd, 6:30 pm

“As with some of her proudly stated musical heroes, which include Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, and Ani Difranco, Pleuss keeps the music above the standard, three-chord, coffee-house troubadour sound with some cool chord progressions (a la Mitchell) and grooves. Pleuss also trusts her lilting melodies enough to use her quiet, emotive alto to sell her lyrics.” – Malcolm X Abram, The Akron Beacon Journal

Singer/Songwriter Showcase with Shelby Olive
Saturday, June 3rd, 6:30pm

Shelby Olive, an Akron native, is a songbird at heart. She got her first ukulele for Christmas in 2009 because her hands wouldn’t fit around a guitar comfortably and from that moment on, it was history! She grew up with a strong musical theatre background that later morphed into heavy jazz influences. Every style of music Shelby has encountered seems to be incorporated in her songwriting, resulting in a blend unlike any other. She is one half of the nationally-renowned ukulele duo, Recipe of Life, and has spent the past two years as the vocalist for Kent State University’s Big Band. With Recipe of Life, she has released two albums and has gone on two tours across the Midwest. Her songwriting comes from a place of honesty and purity. Whether she is singing about young love, heartbreak, growing up, or moving on– her lyrics are ones all of us can relate to. She is set to release her debut solo album at the end of August 2017.

Rittman Orchards’ Strawberry Jamboree!
Saturday, June 17th

Up In Smoke BBQ & Quite Frank Eccentric Street Food – Noon- 4pm

The Madrigal Dancers, 1-3pm –

The Madrigal Dancers began as performers for the Madrigal Feaste at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Wooster. Bill Alkaire and Susan English invited some of the dancers to continue performing for other events. They have been dancing as an independent, nonprofit group for about four years. The dancers range in age from 13 to 75 and present music, dance, and costumes from the 17th and 18th centuries.

English country dances and contra dances are danced throughout the English speaking world. Modern tunes and dances are being created, played, and danced in the traditional ways today, and are somewhat similar to square dances in that they are “called.” However, contra is danced in lines of groups of four, and the partners move up or down the line, rather than staying in a square.

Contra dancing is fun and sometimes funny. It encourages folks to work together so that a friendly community of dancers is formed. Everyone is invited to join in!

After nearly two years of touring as the tambourine-shaking, bass-climbing backup vocalist and manager for the David Mayfield Parade, Rebekah Jean stepped back from Mayfield’s project in 2013 to make a home in Ohio and forge a career out of her own compositions. She’s been winning hearts in Ohio and regionally ever since.
